The Office of Ecumenical Affairs, through the Ecumenical Officer, Bishoy M.
Mikhail, represents His Holiness Pope Shenouda III and the Coptic Orthodox
Church in North America at the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox
Churches, The Joint Commission of the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches
in America, The National Council of Churches and other ecumenical events.
Bishoy has also been on the Coptic Orthodox delegations to the 7th General
Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Harare, Zimbabwe, 1998; the 8th
General Assembly in Porte Alegre, Brazil, 2006 and the Halki Summer Seminars
on the Environment of the Ecumenical Patriarchate 1997, 1998.

The Ecumenical Officer also works to raise awareness of the issues related to
inter-church relations among the youth of the Coptic Orthodox Church, speaking
at youth conventions and visiting parishes of the Archdiocese to speak on these
issues. The Ecumenical Officer maintains personal friendships with many of the
leaders of the Oriental and Eastern Orthodox Churches and strives to promote
cooperation at all levels, to the best of his ability.
